ThinkingRock Development Roadmap

Introduction

We are working on the final Release for 2.0. This release has taking more time than previous releases due to a change of development platform. You can find more details regarding our progress through our forum. ThinkingRock is open source, allowing other developers to contribute to the code.

The purpose of this page is to explain how we see the future development of ThinkingRock and its funding. We have a nice ThinkingRock community and users seem to be very appreciative of our product. These are our initial thoughts and we are welcoming any feedback on them.

Finances

We started ThinkingRock in October 2005. Jeremy (developer) has been working on it full time for the last 2 years and Claire works about 2 days a week on it. We would like to be both working on it full-time. For that we will need to increase our revenues from the donation box. Our planning is thus to make our own modules payable through a membership per year (around $25 USD per year). We said previously that it will be free for people who have donated in the past so the users who have so generously supported us will become members starting from whenever this scheme starts (but trivial donation will not count).

We said previously that there was no hidden agenda. We hope people will understand our position and we do consider that $25 USD is a reasonable amount. There will always be a free version of ThinkingRock available. We will probably make the members-only modules available for free 3 months after their release date.

Any modules developed under the Open Source licence by others will be free.

Final 2.0 final will be available for free, including the rework of the reports. We are also planning to get ThinkingRock translated into a few languages with the generous help from a few users.

Short-term Future functionality foreseen

Please note that only major functionality is described here. We will carry on implementing other suggestions from the forum as well.

  • Different process flow to enter brainstorming ideas, making it easier to organise and action them;
  • New views for project planning;
  • Allow reference items to be linked to project.

At the moment, ThinkingRock gets known through blogs, GTD forums, a few review articles. We seem to be ranked highly by the Google search engine.
